In recent years, due to the "Belt and Road" initiative, bilateral trade between Azerbaijan and China has continued to increase, leading to an improvement in the economy and personal income in Azerbaijan, resulting in a growing demand for imported vehicles. According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, from January to August 2023, Azerbaijan imported a total of 9,640 hybrid cars, a year-on-year increase of 17.4%, with an import value of approximately 220 million U.S. dollars; among them, 803 were pure electric vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 5.8 times, with an import value of approximately 74.14 million U.S. dollars.
